These Hoyas are often grown in hanging baskets/planters as their thin vines can not support their thick, waxy, succulent leaves. New leaves often come in the colors of dark red or plum purple. Leaves can have a deep red/deep purple rim if sun-stressed, and can get some creamy yellow variegations in the center also. This species - like all other Hoyas - produces scented, clustered, star-shaped flowers once the plant reaches maturity and if other environmental factors allow.
